Freelancers worried about Internet problems in Pakistan

For the past few weeks, wherever you go in Pakistan, one complaint is bound to be heard, and that is 'WhatsApp is not working', 'Internet is too slow.'

In the country, if you try to send a voice note or a photo via WhatsApp to someone from your phone, especially using mobile data, there is a good chance that it may not reach the next user or, if you are the recipient, Do not download.

Pakistan's Telecommunications Authority has been silent on the matter and there is no clear answer yet, but late last month a telecom company official told the BBC on condition of anonymity. "As far as we know, internet firewalls have been installed by government agencies, which is causing problems in running social media applications," he said.

It should be noted that Internet firewalls are mainly installed at the main Internet gateways of any country from which the Internet is up and down linked and the purpose of installing this system is to filter and monitor the Internet traffic. Content on websites and social media platforms can be controlled or blocked with the help of this system. Not only this, but with the help of the firewall system, information about the source or origin of such content can also be obtained.

Regarding these issues, the Standing Committee on Information Technology of the National Assembly has requested PTA Chairman Major General (Retd) Hafeezur Rehman to give an explanation before the committee on August 21 regarding the difficulties in accessing social media across the country. .

Importantly, in the middle of all this, a note from Fiver, a famous platform for freelancing in Pakistan and around the world, started circulating, in which it was written on the profile of freelancers in Pakistan that there is an internet shutdown in their country, so they The work done on behalf of may be delayed.
