Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has reported
a significant gas discovery at its exploratory well, Chak 202-1, located in the
Rahim Yar Khan District of Punjab Province. Drilling commenced on June 29,
2024, and the well has yielded a production rate of 6.15 million Standard Cubic
Feet Per Day (MMSCFD) of gas, representing the second consecutive find within
the Mari East Block.
This discovery underscores OGDCL's dedication to tapping
into the hydrocarbon resources of the Mari East Block, supported by a strong
exploration strategy. The company's internal expertise and advanced technology
have been instrumental in this achievement, which is anticipated to play a
vital role in addressing the energy demand-supply imbalance in Pakistan.
Furthermore, this discovery significantly enhances OGDCL's
hydrocarbon reserves and positively impacts the nation's energy framework. It
paves the way for further exploration and production opportunities, thereby
strengthening Pakistan's energy security and decreasing its dependence on
imported energy sources.
